The True Margarita

This is the recipe for the first Margarita that appeared in Mexico City and Acapulco in the 1940s. Crema de Damiana (or Licore de Damiana) is a liquer that can be obtained (or ordered) at a good bottle shop. It is made from a Mexican shrub called Damiana (turnera aphrodisiaca).

· In a cocktail shaker combine

3 jiggers* tequila

3 jiggers lime juice

2 jiggers Damiana crema.


· Shake with ice and strain into
salt-rimmed glasses.



· *1 jigger = 50ml
